Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and PET/CT: From Molecular Mechanisms to Potential Molecular Imaging Targets
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is the most common and critical disease. Bleeding serious complication from a ruptured AAA, which often results in death. Therefore, early diagnosis treatment are only effective means to reduce AAA associated mortality. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) combines functional anatomical imaging. The expanded application of PET/CT medical field could have benefits for patients with AAA. This review explores efficiency based on our understanding underlying molecular mechanisms development.

Novel Molecular Imaging Approaches to Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Risk Stratification.
Selection of patients for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair is currently based on aneurysm size, growth rate, and symptoms. Molecular imaging of biological processes associated with aneurysm growth and rupture, for example, inflammation and matrix remodeling, could improve patient risk stratification and lead to a reduction in abdominal aortic aneurysm morbidity and mortality. (18)F-fluorodeoxyg...
متن کاملMolecular Imaging of Experimental Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Current laboratory research in the field of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) disease often utilizes small animal experimental models induced by genetic manipulation or chemical application. This has led to the use and development of multiple high-resolution molecular imaging modalities capable of tracking disease progression, quantifying the role of inflammation, and evaluating the effects of po...

Dear Editor,Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often asymptomatic, less recognized, and causes considerable mortality and morbidity, if missed. The incidence varies from country to country and the occurrence is influenced by modifiable (smoking, coronary heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prolonged steroid therapy) and non-modifiable risk factors (increasing age, male gender, and positive...
متن کاملMolecular Fingerprint for Terminal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Disease
BACKGROUND Clinical decision making in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) relies completely on diameter. At this point, improved decision tools remain an unmet medical need. Our goal was to identify changes at the molecular level specifically leading up to AAA rupture. METHODS AND RESULTS Aortic wall tissue specimens were collected during open elective (eAAA; n=31) or emergency repair of ruptur...
متن کاملUse of Nanoparticles As Contrast Agents for the Functional and Molecular Imaging of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a degenerative disease of the aorta common in adults older than 65 years of age. AAA is usually imaged using ultrasound or computed tomography. Molecular imaging technologies employing nanoparticles (NPs) have been proposed as novel ways to quantify pathological processes, such as inflammation, within AAAs as a means to identify the risk of rapid progression o...
